Ukrainian Council of Churches met with the President of Israel and government officials
During the high-level meetings in Jerusalem, the delegation of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations stressed the need to preserve the visa-free regime between Ukraine and Israel.
A remarkable event on the first day of the official visit of the Ukrainian delegation to the Holy Land was the meeting of the UCCRO members with the President of the State of Israel Reuven Rivlin, the Institute for Religious Freedom reports.
Members of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations in more detail discussed with representatives of the Israeli Government the issue of the further development of the pilgrimage to both countries and Ukrainian-Israeli relations.
The issues of international cooperation and pilgrimage, taking into account the benefits of the existing visa-free regime, as well as the counteraction to the manifestations of anti-Semitism and environmental challenges, became the subject of discussion with Zeev Elkin, the Minister for Jerusalem and National Heritage Affairs, the Minister of the Environment of the State of Israel.
The parties exchanged their statements on Israel's solidarity with Ukraine and on the support of the State of Israel on the international level during a meeting between Ukrainian religious leaders and high-ranking officials of the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, participants of the meeting separately discussed issues of religious freedom for believers of different denominations and representatives of different cultures.
A meeting of the UCCRO delegation with a military rabbi and Gush Etzion governor Shlomo Neeman also had a practical character. The last shared Israeli experience in organizing a military chaplaincy in the Israeli Defense Forces and explained the peculiarities of performing military service for believers.
The delegation of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations is represented by the heads of such denominations:
- Union of Jewish Religious Organizations of Ukraine;
- Orthodox Church of Ukraine;
- Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church;
- Ukrainian Orthodox Church (in unity with the Moscow Patriarchate);
- Roman Catholic Church in Ukraine;
- All-Ukrainian Union of Churches of Evangelical Christian-Baptists;
- Ukrainian Pentecostal Church;
- Seventh-day Adventist Church;
- Ukrainian Free Church of Christians of Evangelical Faith;
- Ukrainian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church;
- German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Ukraine.
Also, in the delegation of the UCCRO includes the leaders of the Ukrainian Bible Society, the Institute for Religious Freedom and the Religious Administration of Muslims of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea.
As the IRF reported, the official visit of the delegation of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations to Israel takes place on the initiative of the Chief Rabbi of Kyiv and Ukraine Yaakov Dov Bleich, the current Chairman of the UCCRO.
The visit program also plans the meeting of Ukrainian religious leaders with the Speaker of the Knesset (Parliament) and the visiting meeting in Jerusalem.
We also remind that the first official visit of the Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations to the State of Israel also took place in 2009. Then the outcome of the meeting of the UCCRO delegation at the highest level was the final resolution on the issue of establishing a visa-free regime between Ukraine and Israel.
